I’ve been saving this.

Thank you, John Oliver.

Let’s hope the new year doesn’t suck as overwhelmingly as the last one, eh?

See you soon for Chamber of Secrets and whatever else we decide to babble about. Happy new year from both of us.

How will it not? This year just saw Trump elected; next year he’s actually going to be President.

I’m looking forward to CoS. It’s my favorite book by far. The climax is my favorite scene in the series, and Diary-Tom Riddle is one of the best villains ever. (No, I’m not kidding.) The diary is supremely creepy, and Tom Riddle in this book reached a level of evil and scariness that nothing in the rest of the series ever came close to matching. I’m wondering what you’ll think of it.

I forget who first said this and don’t want to take credit for it, but it’s a sentiment I agree with: the worst thing about seeing 2016 go is the thought that someday we might be looking back at it as a high point. That is genuinely terrifying.

I’m genuinely curious to see what we manage to shake out of CoS also. I remember it being my least favourite of the books when I was younger, but looking at it in hindsight I think it might be one of the strongest in the series (not that that’s necessarily saying much!) in terms of craftsmanship, plotting, etc. But at the same time, I know I also have lots of complaints and nitpicks, there are plot holes aplenty to explore. And before our readthrough here I remembered Philosopher’s Stone much more positively; we shocked ourselves with how much we found wrong with it. So we’ll have to see what happens 🙂

I don’t know exactly when we’ll be getting started, but watch this space.

Finally, someone who shares my love for Chamber of Secrets! I was starting to think I was the only person in the world to like it better than Prisoner of Azkaban.
